Before you read just know that this quest is really fun, might want to try doing it on your own first then reading this when your completely stumped. (great job devs)

1- Head to Tak'Hiz (C), to the n/w corner outside the city on a hill. You will find: Nayr Nonnahs, Nolram Barro and Rian Buesh. You only need to kill Nolram Barro, he has the loot items you want (a page and a scroll). Whoever in your group loots these items, must then slowly approach the campsite, they will receive a popup :you have received a quest.
The respawn rate is not too bad. (Suggest you run and log the Archeologist Tanner quest while you are waiting :)

Some ppl have trouble getting popup here even when they kill all 3 npc's. Try going to step 2 and seeing if Nothard will give you quest anyway. Berg says: When you go to takish hiz at step 3, I got a popup just entering the the temple where you go down to chardith's area. This popup I think deleted the go to takish hiz section in my buddy's quest log and she had to start over. The good news is that you can skip the takish hiz section all together by just jumping from step 1 to 5.

2- Talk to William Nothard in Freeport (located on the 2nd floor, in the building in the room behind the wizard's guild; look out for Rea), he tells you to head to Tak'Hiz and find a book that gives clues on how to decypher the code on the Old Scroll looted from Nolrams body.

3-Head to Takish'Hiz (SE) and go down into Lord Chardith's spawn point. Behind the archmagus there are 2 seprate pop ups to read a book. One which tells the story of a dark elf while the other explains how to decypher the code. After going through the book about the code, a mob named "The Dead Acolyte" spawns and attacks you. Kill him. (He drops nothing you need)
Note: the popups here are kinda wierd. Sometimes you'll get both, sometimes only the one about how to decypher the scroll. If more than one toon in your group has their quest logged, ALL will advance regardless of who got the popup. Also, at this point your quest log will be empty.

4- When the code is decyhpered on the old scroll it reads "The Secret lies within the tombs of the Rowen'dal. An incredible power waits to be unleashed."

5- Head to Tomb of Kings. Upon entering you will recieve a pop up saying you have recieved a quest. In your quest log it now says to open the chest within the tomb.

6- Make your way to the room with the kings, inside is a connable treasure chest. Open it and "Excavation Leader" will spawn. After talking to him he will eventually tell you to head to Neriak because this is where the item in the chest had been shipped. He will attack you at the end of the speech, kill him.
Note: Sapphyra's Necklace dropped of Excavation Leader when someone killed him
Note2: When multiple ppl are running the quest together, Dustyshperes says: If you keep the first Leader dead and fresh, everyone else will just need to talk to the chest one at a time to advance their quest. A new leader won't spawn if there is a corpse on the ground.

7- At the very top of the ramp leading into Neriak, "Stranger" spawns. Talk to him and he tells you to come with him. He then ports you to Neriak (E) where him and 2 battlemages are. (Note:This is the guy that the other book in Tak'Hiz was about) Speak to Kizdean Gix and he will tell you to head to Permafrost and find Old Man.

8- Head to Permafrost (NW) to find "Old Man." He's located on the west side of Castle Vox, near Machinist Sethlans for the fabled adventure quest; at coastline as far north as you can get.

If more than one in your group are doing the quest this part is tricky, read note below.
Upon approaching him you recieve a pop up saying "Stay away" and 5 bodyguards (db to 60) spawn. Defeat them and talk to Old man. He will give you "Ripped page 1,2, or 3" of the Dercas Emot (Sacred tome bacwards) and tells you the key to decyphering it is in Freeport....
Note: There is a rock, just south of the "Old Man". The group should assemble there, it is safe. Only one person with the quest logged should approach the old man and get the popup (thereby spawning all his guards). Pull and kill each of the drake guards (you can loot, they won't respawn). Once area is clear, spawner should talk to the old man. Once the quest is advanced, the next person can approach the old man and spawn the popup.
Note: See this thread on the sony forums by Ronson - this can be a tricky part of the quest to complete when you are runnin the quest with multiple toons.

9-Head to Freeport, Speak to Nebur Hael. She seems to roam around the inn, the first right off the main hallway from the coach.

10- Decypher your page. Depending on what scroll the old man gave you, you will have to go to:
Page 1:"A Watery grave was its plight, among the frogs that walk upright." Guk (SW) in a pond is the chest (I havent opened this chest but chances are a named spawns on you)

Page 2: "Land of the reptiles that walk like men...could not be trusted..Arrangements made to keep it off the mainlands" Dinbak (S) you will find Dercas Warden and the chest you need to open. No mob will spawn for you to fight.

Page 3: "Are intelligent yet arrogant. They probably have no idea it was placed within their own compound." Head to the necromancer guild in Highbourne, here you will find the chest. (Upon opening the chest a mob spawns, attacking you. Can con anywhere from db to yellow).

11- Return to Kizdean Gix in Neriak (e) with the piece of Decras Emot. Speak to him, He will then spawn "The Dead Guardian"(Would suggest having 2 prople with you, mob has massive hp) Kill it and progress on. You cannot progress to ToL unless you kill the Dead Guardian. If more than one person in your group has this logged, all will receive flags for quest advancement, if just one person speaks to him.

12- Head to The Temple of Light and speak to Sir Rodger Rodgers, he attacks you after the dialogue. (Hits weak, doable with 2, also has massive hp). If more than one person in your group has this logged, all will receive flags for quest advancement, if just one person speaks to him.

13- Return to Kizdean Gix in Neriak (E) you recieve 63,000,000 xp and 100,000 Tunar, and he ports you to Freeport docks. Then you run to The Storyteller in Baga Village (NE) (South of Moradhim); he is located near the well. The Faction Merchants are west, by the river. You will receive your 75 faction.

Note: When group flags happen, sometimes multiple quests enter your log. Before you speak Kizdean make sure quest log says
"you have been used! return to Kizdean Gix". If there is also a quest entry that says "follow Kizdean to the temple of light" simple delete this one and speak to Kizdean to finish quest.

Go see The Storyteller in Baga Village (NE) (South of Moradhim); he is located near the well. The Faction Merchants are west, by the river. You will receive +75 Faction.

Quest is not repeatable.
